New TIMELESS in Abu Dhabi

We take a closer look at the new project, why we chose the Corniche waterfront, how panoramic views became part of the concept, and what inspired the interior design, shaped by the spirit of a late-1970s New York penthouse.

We are continuing the brand’s international expansion and preparing to open a new location in the UAE — TIMELESS Abu Dhabi.

The project will occupy the two upper floors of Sofitel Abu Dhabi Corniche. Construction is currently underway, while the future interior is taking shape through visualizations and technical drawings. The soft opening is scheduled for late 2026 or early 2027.

Abu Dhabi: A Capital with a Different Rhythm

The capital of the UAE has a character all of its own. It is a major business and cultural center, home to federal ministries, international corporations, the Louvre Abu Dhabi, and Qasr Al Watan. The pace of life is more measured, while wide avenues and long waterfront promenades shape the cityscape.

The emirate is also connected to an interesting story: its name translates as “Father of the Gazelle.” According to legend, a gazelle led hunters to a source of fresh water on an island, where the modern metropolis later grew.

Today, Abu Dhabi brings together business, tourism, and everyday city life. This is why the venue’s audience will be diverse — from hotel guests and local residents to travelers from around the world.

The Corniche: Life by the Water

Sofitel is located within the Capital Plaza complex, on the eastern part of Corniche Road.

The Corniche stretches for around eight kilometers along the coastline. It is one of the city’s main destinations for walking, sports, and leisure by the water. The location is not an isolated resort, but right in the heart of the city — close to business districts and residential neighborhoods.

Sofitel features 280 rooms and suites, as well as a spa, swimming pool, and event spaces. Hotel guests will be able to reach TIMELESS directly from the lobby, while other visitors will come specifically for the atmosphere and views across the waterfront.

Height as Part of the Concept

The venue will occupy the 36th and 37th floors. It will be the first TIMELESS location with expansive panoramic glazing, offering views of the waterfront and harbor. Here, height is a key element of the design.

During the day, the interiors will be filled with natural light, while in the evening the city lights will take over the view. Special blinds will allow the lighting to be adjusted throughout the day while maintaining a sense of privacy. Mirrors, black glass, and polished metal finishes will further enhance the panoramic effect.

The Aesthetic of Late-1970s New York

The main source of inspiration for the designers was a New York penthouse from the late 1970s. The concept is a contemporary interpretation of the atmosphere of nighttime Manhattan: understated luxury, intimacy, and the spirit of a private party high above the streets.

This translates into low-profile upholstered furniture, subdued accents, and carefully considered zoning. The finishes combine dark and cream-colored stone, wood veneer, metal, and mirrored surfaces. Rounded forms and warm lighting will help maintain a sense of intimacy despite the scale of the glazing.

Where the Project Stands

The design has progressed from the first moodboards to detailed working drawings. Construction is currently underway, while equipment procurement and operational planning are progressing in parallel.
